Expedition Cruises is the U.S. marketing division of Poseidon Arctic Voyages, an operator of tours to the North Pole, based in Moscow, Russia. Tours begin in Helsinki, Finland, from which travelers fly to Murmansk, Russia. From there, they travel through the Barents Sea to the Pole via the nuclear icebreaker 50 Years of Victory, and fly to the actual Pole via helicopter from the ship. They then stop at the islands and archipelagos of Franz Josef Land and Spitsbergen and return to Murmansk, then fly back to Helsinki. In 2011 the company will make the two-week journey three times in July and August; similar charters and individual trips are planned for 2012.
